The Kosciusko County Prosecutor has directed law enforcement agencies to begin shutting down the county’s Flock camera system after the County Council voted to withhold its funding.

The council approved three funding-related motions Thursday night following a budget meeting that drew hundreds of residents, many of whom raised concerns about the license-plate reader cameras.

The prosecutor’s order immediately stops new routine searches and live tracking through the system. Agencies have seven days to preserve evidence connected to active investigations and criminal cases.

Local access to the Flock system is scheduled to end after September 18. The order also directs agencies to remove the cameras and place them in secure storage.
