Sen. Braun signals voting against Ketanji Brown Jackson to Supreme Court

(provided by his Senate office)

Indiana Senator Mike Braun is signaling he’s leaning against voting to confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, but says he won’t make a final decision till after her confirmation hearings:

Braun says Republicans are digging into Jackson’s record on two lower courts. He says Jackson “seems well-qualified,” but says Jackson will have to give “a pretty strong explanation” of her philosophy and past rulings.

Braun predicts all Democrats will vote for Jackson. With Vice President Kamala Harris available to cast a tiebreaking vote if needed, that’s enough to guarantee Jackson’s confirmation as the third African-American justice and first black woman on the court. And Braun says “three or four” Republicans are leaning yes.

Braun says he won’t support any Supreme Court nominee he views as activist, pointing to the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision which legalized abortion as a prime example of judicial overreach. He says most such issues should be left to the states, not the federal courts — even, he said on a conference call with reporters, the 1967 ruling which struck down state bans on interracial marriage.

“Within our federal system, there are going to be rules and proceedings that are going to be out of sync with maybe what other states would do,” Braun says. “That’s where the differences among points of view in our 50 states ought to express themselves….It’s hard to have [judicial intervention] on issues that you just are interested in, when you deny it for others with a different point of view.

“They’re not all going to make you happy within a given state, but we’re better off having states manifest their points of view, rather than homogenizing it across the country as Roe v. Wade did.”

Indiana’s senior senator, Todd Young (R), hasn’t said how he’ll vote on Jackson’s confirmation either.

Judges Jackson is unqualified. How can a judge do her job when she cannot or will not define when life begins or what is a woman and by extension a man. Every 4 year old knows there is a difference. Since she is co confused ab out gender how can women athletes get a fair shake. Will the kid in Lauden County VA dressed as a girl that raped two real girls in the bathroom get an exoneration from this judge? This judge is a thinly disguised disrupter. She is not in the main stream, not even close. She has been overturned a lot more than average. She is soft on child porn. Maybe she is being installed to protect Dopey King Xo the Idiot and Hair Sniffer of Brandonville. Or to protect all the other judges who are also soft on child porn and child sexual abuse. Senator Braun is right to vote against her. Perhaps Rip Van Todd will awake from his slumber and do the same.

She should be immediately disqualified as a matter of principle. ANY nominee chosen for sexist or racist reasons should be summarily refused by everyone.

I’m sadden by the way Supreme Court nominees have been treated for the past 12 years. Should we disband political parties because they vote in unison and only care about getting re-elected? It is almost impossible for an independent to get elected. There is too much money in politics. It is not in the best interest of our Country to allow Party Leaders to hold hostage legislation that the majority of Congress and/or legislators would approve if the legislation would come to the floor of the House and/or Senate.
