Man who drove through a crowd of protesters in Mishawaka, found guilty

A man who drove through a crowd of protesters in Mishawaka, back in 2020, has been found guilty of a *misdemeanor* charge of criminal recklessness.

Glenn Wheet was convicted by a jury earlier this year, but now, a judge ruled Wheet guilty of a misdemeanor, rather than a felony count. One of the demonstrators testified during the trial-saying he was dragged by Wheet’s vehicle when he grabbed the passenger side mirror and held on.

He said he ended up on the pavement with a head injury and road rash.

Wheet testified he believed the group would move out of the way.

He said he was surprised when they approached his car and started pounding on it — making him feel as though he were under attack. He also testified he thought the demonstrators would get out of the way once he accelerated.

Four people were injured. ABC 57 News reports Wheet was sentenced to 12 months with all but one day suspended, along with one year of probation.
