Fire at plant on Cooper Drive, Elkhart, deemed accidental

(Bill Beck/Elkhart Truth)

A fire inside a trash hopper at a plant in Elkhart was deemed accidental.

The Elkhart Fire Department was called around 5:20 a.m. on Sunday, April 24, to the 3700 block of Cooper Drive for an activated fire alarm.

Crews arrived to find light smoke coming from the building and plastic pallets inside the trash hopper.

They described the fire as small and say a sprinkler kept it from spreading.

Crews conducted a search of the building and found no employees on site.

It took about 20 minutes to put out the fire.
