Study released on central Michigan dam failures

A report from a government panel has been released regarding dam failures in Michigan.

Those dams resulted in flooding along the Tittabawassee River basin in central Michigan, including the city of Midland.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission released the report Wednesday, saying flaws in the Edenville Dam, built in the 1920s, caused it to collapse on May 19 2020. This inundated the Sanford Dam, resulting in the evacuations of thousands of people from Midland and the destruction of 150 homes.

The commission believes the problems were foreseeable and preventable. Damages topped $200 million.
