Hoosier lawmakers reacting to school shooting in Uvalde Texas

Hoosier lawmakers are reacting to the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas that has now left 19 children and a teacher dead.

Congressman Andre Carson, a Democrat, says he’s “heartbroken by this horrific act of violence” and added the nation has “lost its way” by not changing gun laws.

Republican Congresswoman Victoria Spartz called the shooter a “coward” on Twitter. GOP Senator Mike Braun said he’s “horrified by this senseless murder.”

“We only had a total of 15 children in our emergency room this afternoon in relation to the incident that happened at the school,” said Uvalde Memorial Hospital CEO Thomas Nordwick. “13 of those children were alive. Three of those 15 were transferred to San Antonio for a higher level of care.”

Nordwick said two other victims at the hospital were “DOAs” or Dead On Arrival.

“We see it every night on the news that young people are accessing firearms and that young people are killing young people with firearms,” said Jennifer Haan with the Moms Demand Action Indiana Chapter. “That has to end.”

“The way that that ends is through strong gun policy that doesn’t punish the everyday gun owner that would like to have one for home protection. Gun laws that are based on common sense, and it is not common sense to have children shot and killed in a classroom.”

A Texas state senator says Romas bought two guns on his 18th birthday earlier this month. Democratic Senator Roland Gutierrez said he had been briefed by Texas Rangers and learned the guns purchased were the same ones used in the massacre.

Texas recently passed a law lowering the required age to buy a gun from 21 to 18.

Jennifer Haan is kinda clueless. There are already murder laws, but somehow she thinks a mass murderer is going to follow gun laws?

Mass murders never follow any of our laws. Laws only effect the law-abiding. There were plenty of warning signals on this murderer. Where did he get the $1000+ needed to buy two AR-15’s plus magazines and ammo? Ammo is about $1 per round. That would be $375 for his ammo. Where did he get the money to buy body armor? He killed his grandmother before going to the school. There was drug abuse in his mother’s home. Where was his dad teaching him right from wrong? Why didn’t his school authorities stop the bullying he suffered under their control? Why didn’t the layers of security at the school stop him before he killed anyone? Send in the social workers to stop an armed insane demon possessed person. That’s a great plan. Now loud mouthed Hollywierd types and other celebrities are calling for new laws that are already on the books. A basketball coach says we need background checks. The killer passed background checks. And on it goes. The loser is the Constitution and the low-abiding American gun owners who did nothing wrong and will likely continue to remain law-abiding. But somehow it is there fault a young man chose to solve his problems by taking the lives of others. When we kick God out of our society we suffer the consequences.

More like $5000, those were Daniel Defense rifles with a nice optic. How could he afford that living at his grandma’s house?

Joe Holland May 27, 2022 at 1:34 pm

Actually at least one of the rifles was supposedly a new Daniel Defense DDM4, those are over 1800 alone, but his also had a eotech optic, those add another 600 , so just ONE rifle was 2400 bucks, not counting the other rifle and pistol. Where does an 18 year old get a nice truck and over 4000 dollars worth of weapons ????
