Walorski discusses student loan forgiveness proposals

U.S. Representative Jackie Walorski (R), a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, recently discussed the potential ramifications of Democrats’ student loan forgiveness proposals. During a Ways and Means Republicans roundtable on “The Perils of President Biden’s Student Debt Forgiveness Plan,” Congresswoman Walorski exposed these schemes as “welfare for the rich.”

“My district is the manufacturing epicenter of the world. Here’s a sad reality. Democrats expect a highly-skilled welder who received technical training to bankroll the education of a stranger who freely chose to take on debt to finance their education. This is entitlement at its worst,” said Congresswoman Walorski.

She also encouraged universities to follow in the example of former Indiana governor and current Purdue University President Mitch Daniels, who has been able to freeze students’ tuition for more than a decade.

“This ongoing conversation about ballooning student debt hasn’t included enough discussion about the complicity of universities. We all know tuition costs have been rising for years at places of all stripes…they all feed on the debt financed by federally-backed loans,” she added. “Purdue President Mitch Daniels has been able to freeze tuition at his school for almost 11 years. He has shown that you can provide high quality education while keeping tuition prices stable, and it’s a model I’d like to see in other schools across the country.”

Every area that sees government dollars has gotten markedly more expensive (higher ed, healthcare, EVs), and areas where there are no government dollars have gotten less expensive over time (consumer goods, electronics). There is one inescapable fact: government subsidies ALWAYS lead to higher costs.

I paid my student loans. I paid my 3 kids student loans. If this forgiveness happens, will I get a refund? Of course not. This idea is total BS.

Is it fair for a cashier at Martin’s grocery store to pay for a stranger’s student loan with a degree in
International Peace Studies ? The answer is no because it’s socialism. This is why the Federal Government will never balance the budget and inflation will continue. We can’t print money out of thin air that doesn’t exist, but yet they continue to do it.

Some would argue that we shouldn’t be using fiat currency in the first place, that any money able to be created out of thin air is intrinsically worthless. Once the BRICS coalition replaces the dollar as the global reserve currency, the game is over for the dollar.

No student loan should be forgiven, period! If yo made a dumb choice on a course of study no one is now willing to pay you for a job that is just too bad. I know sor sure it isn’t my fault and I should not be saddled with the expense through my taxes.
