It’s a suspended sentence for the former South Bend Police officer accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old girl.
Timothy Barber’s plea deal to a guilty count of child seduction and official misconduct was accepted by the judge on Friday.
The agreement included a 4-year cap on prison time. The victim asked the judge for the maximum sentence and Barber received it, though the judge suspended the sentence.
Barber was also ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years. Barber was formally charged, last fall, with two counts of child seduction, two counts of misconduct and a charge of public nudity and public indecency.
He was accused of using his position as a police officer to pressure the teen to have sex with him.
She said he even drove her to a secluded location for a sexual encounter while he was wearing his uniform.

How did this man get by with no jail time? It’s worse when a sworn officer betrays his oath and the law enforcement profession.
Allen, because it’s St. Joseph County, Indiana that’s why. Until the one party beginning with the word D is voted out and replace with R. The prosecutor’s office and the judges are soft on punishing criminals. The surrounding counties are much tougher on sentencing criminals.
We the people need to pay more attention to what our elected officials are doing, or in this case not doing.
