New Carlisle could end up building new electric battery plant

The payout could be pretty huge for New Carlisle if Ultium Cells ends up building a new electric vehicle battery plant in the St. Joseph County town.

If they come to the area, the initial investment would be more than $2-billion, but experts say the economic impact of the plant could generate 650-million annually.

Ultium Cells is a join venture between General Motors and LG Engery Solutions to build more EV batteries.

The company is still deciding on whether to se tup shop in New Carlisle.
