American Red Cross asking for blood donations

With the flu season poised to be bad this year, the American Red Cross is urging you to donate blood now so they have enough to go around later on.
The Red Cross is anticipating blood donation to decrease as flu cases increase. With that organization wants to make sure they have enough blood stocked up to meet demand.
There is especially a need for O-negative-type blood since only about 7-percent of the population is O-negative.
But, people who are O-neg are also called universal donors because O-neg blood can be used in emergency transfusions for people doctors don’t know a blood type for.

My husband and I are willing and able to donate. However, the Red Cross refuses to change its stance on accepting donations from people who lived in the UK prior to 1980. Even though we donate here from 1981 for over 13 years. I guess there need isn’t great enough.
