Intersection of Ironwood and Douglas Road to re-open on Monday

The long awaited opening of Ironwood Road between Cleveland Road and State Road 23 is upon us.

Although the Contractor has chosen not to place the final asphalt surface course, (which will now be done under traffic next year), crews are currently placing the traffic markings on the roadway and are preparing for the re-opening of Ironwood Road through the Douglas Road intersection which is anticipated to be opened to traffic mid to late afternoon on Monday, Dec. 5.

There will be some minor restrictions related to lanes of travel through the winter as a result of the asphalt surface not being placed. There is a slight lip exposed where the asphalt pavement meets the concrete curb and gutter, and for that reason, there will be large orange barrels along both east and west edges of Ironwood Road. Also, until the remaining section of Douglas Road is constructed which also includes a new bridge over Juday Creek, (both scheduled for start in early February / March of 2023), there will be a dedicated RIGHT TURN ONLY lane for eastbound Douglas turning south onto Ironwood. For safety purposes a temporary NO TURN ON RED condition will be established for southbound Ironwood turning east onto Douglas due to the merging traffic pattern instated from the newly constructed Douglas Road west of Ironwood to the existing two lane Douglas Road east of Ironwood.

There is a possibility through the winter months that some underground and widening work to be performed along the southside of Douglas Road between Ironwood and State Road 23. This work will be in the proposed widening areas and is not expected to affect motorists traveling on Douglas Road east or westbound within this section. As it will be conducted outside of the limits of the existing roadway.
