Two men killed in crash at Corby Blvd. and Jacob Street in South Bend

Two men were killed after a car hit a tree near the intersection of Corby Boulevard and North Jacob Street in South Bend.

The collision happened around 4:15 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19. A South Bend Police office reported seeing a westbound car with a headlight out at Corby and Ironwood. The officer turned around to stop the car, which then accelerated.

The officer lost sight of the car within a few blocks and ended the attemtped traffic stop.

The officer continued driving west at a reduced speed and found the car near the intersection of Corby and Jacob, where it had crashed into a tree.

The driver, Rashaun Leonard Mason, 21, of South Bend was pronounced dead at the scene
of the crash. A passenger, Jurell Fedrick, 26, was taken to Memorial Hospital, where he
died.

This crash is being investigated by the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team.
