The National New York Central Railroad Museum is launching a yearlong celebration of Elkhart’s rail history.
It marks 175 years since the first train arrived in the city. The kickoff event is set for this Saturday, April 18 at 2 p.m., featuring a keynote presentation by Richard Luckin as part of the “175 Series.”
Organizers say ElkhartRail175 will include exhibits, guest speakers, a youth art competition and major events later this year.
City leaders say the railroad helped shape Elkhart’s economy and identity, and they say this celebration honors that legacy while looking toward the future.
