South Bend ethanol plant to be bought by Germany company, converted into biorefinery

(95.3 MNC)

South Bend’s ethanol plant will soon be converted into a biorefinery.

That’s the plan as German company VERBIO purchases the plant.

WNDU reports that it will continue producing ethanol, but that it will also produce renewable natural gas.

VERBIO has over 10 years of success in production at its plants in Germany, and officials say they are taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the IRA.

The renewable natural gas produced will help fill the needs of transportation and industry, and with over $233 million being invested, there is some assurance that the plant has a secure future.
