Governor Holcomb is asking President Biden to leave decisions on trans athletes to the states. Holcomb is one of two dozen Republican governors who signed a letter to the Biden administration.
The letter challenges a proposal to ban schools and colleges that receive federal funding from creating policies that stop transgender students from playing on sports teams that match their gender identity.
Holcomb’s signing of the letter comes after he vetoed a bill in 2022 that would ban transgender athletes from participating in girls school sports; that measure still went on the books after the veto was overridden by lawmakers.
