52,000+ Hoosiers removed from Medicaid in first month of “unwinding”

More than 50 thousand Hoosiers were removed from Medicaid in the first month of an unwinding period.

More than 46 thousand were unenrolled due to “procedural reasons,” according to WFYI. Another 6 thousand were deemed ineligible and transferred over to marketplace insurance. The moves are the result of the end of the federal public health emergency that temporarily suspended some rules on certain programs like the Healthy Indiana Plan and Children’s Health Insurance Program.

April 1 saw the beginning of an effort to disenroll ineligible Hoosiers from Medicaid coverage that is expected to go on until next May.

Indiana residents on Medicaid are urged to make sure their contact and other information is up to date.
