One-year-old child killed, another hurt in crash on M-40 in Van Buren County

A fatal crash in Van Buren County claimed the life of a one-year-old child.

It happened Friday afternoon, June 2, on M-40 between 40th and 44th Avenues.

Investigators say traffic started to slow due to a vehicle trying to turn left, as reported by WSJM.

That’s when the driver of a Chevy Colorado collided with the back of a Toyota Highlander. The child who died was a passenger in the Highlander and a five-year-old riding in the SUV suffered a broken collarbone.

A 60-year-old woman driving the Chevy underwent surgery.

The driver of the Toyota wasn’t hurt. Police say both kids were properly secured in car seats.
