After more than a year’s work, the City of Benton Harbor has fulfilled the Environmental Protection Agency’s orders regarding alleged violations in the water supply.
It was November of 2021 when the E.P.A. issued an Order to Benton Harbor Public Water System to address violations and achieve compliance with drinking water regulations.
In April 2022, the EPA sent a letter regarding disinfection profiling and benchmarking requirements. Since then, the city addressed concerns and provided th agency with revised calculations and documentation.
In March of this year, the submitted its final report, fullfilling all of the order’s terms.
With that, the order has officially been terminated, including obligations such as informing consumers about lead exceedances, stricter monitoring, repairs, and continuous monitoring. Benton Harbor has replaced all lead service lines and is no longer exceeding lead limits.
