The National Institute of Food and Agriculture, an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture recently awarded Purdue University three grants totaling more than $1.4 million.
The grants awarded to the University’s Animal Sciences Department are meant to address the metabolic health of cows and the influence of thyroid hormones in pigs.
One of the grants totaling $300,000 is going toward research into Ketosis in Cattle.
Assistant Professor Rafael Neves was quoted in Purdue’s statement as saying that Ketosis in cows can cost the dairy industry anywhere from $110 million to $330 million dollars a year.
