With the 4th of July holiday approaching, officials at the South Bend Medical Foundation have issued a reminder to the community of the need for donated blood due to the sharp increase in injuries requiring medical attention.

Experts say the Fourth of July is the most dangerous holiday of the year.  At this time of year there is an increase in car accidents, boating, and firework injuries, and alcohol-related crashes all requiring our local hospitals to have an ample supply of blood on hand.  “We are encouraging the community to help us prepare for this need by donating before and after the holiday,” says Mary Ankrapp, Supervisor for Blood Donor Recruitment for the South Bend Medical Foundation.

Donate Blood with the South Bend Medical Foundation from now through July 8th and you’ll receive a Blood Donor Beach Towel and a Speedway gift card as a thank-you for helping during this time of need.  We want the community to keep us in mind; every pint donated makes a tremendous impact,” Ankrapp said.

Appointments are encouraged but Walk-ins will be taken as well.  The South Bend Medical Foundation has donor centers located at 3355 Douglas Rd. South Bend and 2222 Rieth Blvd. Goshen.
