Sentencing delayed for former Elkhart police officer

Elkhart Police // Alyssa Foster

Sentencing has been delayed for a former Elkhart police officer.

Joshua Titus pleaded guilty in April this year to one count of deprivation of civil rights after reportedly beating an inmate who was handcuffed to a chair in 2018.

It was all caught on surveillance camera.

Titus’ sentencing was originally set for Tuesday in Hammond but has now been pushed back to October 12.

Cory Newland, the other officer involved in the case, received a 15-month sentence in December on the same charge as well as aiding and abetting.
