A man arrested in connection with the crash that resulted in the death of an Elkhart teen is set for a court hearing set for the week of Aug. 7.

Police arrested Ronnie Hapner, 34, who’s accused of hitting and killing 18-year-old Blaine Fisher of Elkhart and and seriously injuring another 18-year-old during the June 2021 collision.

His arrest came after the Fisher’s mother shared a home security video of a white pickup truck to Facebook, and asked the community to help police find the vehicle and suspect.

Hapner is charged with leaving the scene of a serious body injury accident and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. His jury trial is scheduled for late in August.

Although his defense suggested that there’d be a chance of continuing the trial, the judge told them it’s not likely he’ll allow that to happen.
