24-year-old Alauraeve Allen met with Judge Christofeno for a pretrial conference on murder and neglect charges.

Elkhart police and Elkhart fire departments were dispatched to an apartment on Middlebury Street on July 7 regarding an unconscious 6-month-old who was not breathing.

The baby was taken to the Elkhart General Hospital and then to South Bend Memorial Hospital where she died the next day. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Allen had told investigators that she had left the baby in the care of friends, and when she returned the baby had vomited on her so she took a long bath.

She said when she finished her bath, the baby was not breathing, so she called 911.

In a later interview, Allen said she had become angry with the baby and shook her on July 6, as well as struck the baby and caused injuries on other occasions.

Allen’s status conference is scheduled for September 28, with her jury trial on April 15.
