There’s a new glimmer of hope for the Palisades nuclear plant, after a power cooperative in Michigan agreed to buy up to two-thirds of its power for 28 years.
But there are still hurdles to clear before the plant is up and running again. Bridge Michigan reports that Wolverine Power Cooperative of Cadillac has agreed to buy power from the shuttered plant in Van Buren County.
A second cooperative, Hoosier Energy, will buy the rest for their customers in Indiana and Illinois.
This means Palisades, a 51 year-old plant that closed in May 2022, is closer to a potential restart that supporters say is crucial to Michigan’s carbon-neutral efforts.

Nuclear is the way to go if you all want clean energy production. That single plant will far out produce all the solar panels and wind farms the entire state could support. AND it works during night time and when there is no wind. Plus it is far cleaner than all the lithium mines and the disposal of worn out wind turbine blades, batteries, and solar panels. Countries in Europe have used nuclear energy to generate electricity for more than half a century without any negative effects. Then we won’t need public employees running ahead of Jennifer Grandholm on her quest for foolishness with gas powered cars to reserve a charging space while she virtue shames around the south east.
