Two arrests made, three guns confiscated after pursuit in South Bend

Two people have been arrested, and three guns have been recovered following a pursuit in South Bend.

It was around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, when officers initiated a traffic stop on a van in the area of Randolph and Clyde Streets. As officers were speaking with the male driver, a female passenger jumped into the vehicle’s driver’s seat and drove off.

The man was detained as other responding officers followed the fleeing van.

The pursuit ended near Miami Street and Apple Ridge Court after the vehicle hit stop sticks.

The woman who was driving the vehicle was detained. Two juveniles were also in the vehicle but were not injured.

Through a follow-up investigation, three firearms, one of which was stolen, along with suspected cocaine, marijuana, and other drug paraphernalia were recovered from the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, 33-year-old Demetris Jennings, Jr. and 38-year-old Alicia Levine were arrested.

Jennings was arrested on several preliminary charges, including felon in possession of a firearm, operator never licensed, resisting law enforcement, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, and theft, and was also arrested on several warrants.

Levine was arrested on several preliminary charges, including resisting law enforcement, unlawful possession of a firearm, the operator never licensed possession of cocaine, theft, criminal recklessness, and neglect of a dependent, and was also arrested on several warrants.

Jennings and Levine were taken to the St. Joseph County Jail, awaiting formal charges from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

There are more and more adults being arrested for operating a motor vehicle with never having a license. I imagine the St. Joseph County judge will let them off easy for all charges. They’ll be back on the streets doing the same thing again in the future.
