Driver leads police on high-speed pursuit after attempted traffic stop

Goshen Police tried to stop a vehicle for reckless driving, but the driver failed to stop and led police on a high-speed pursuit into Elkhart.
The pursuit began around 2 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4. in the 3500 block of Elkhart Road.
The vehicle pursuit eventually turned into a foot chase. That’s when a police K9 caught up to the driver, Jonnatan Gutierrez Vela, 20, of Elkhart.
Vela was arrested for resisting law enforcement in a vehicle, resisting law enforcement on foot, operating while intoxicated, never obtaining a license and reckless driving.
He was injured while being nabbed by the police dog and was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment before being locked up at the Elkhart County Jail.
