The Fighting Irish play host to Wake Forest this weekend, in a game that has more than a little bit of history to it.
For starters, it allows Notre Dame Quarterback Sam Hartman to face off against his old team, the Demon Deacons. But it’s also the home team’s 500th game at the university’s historic Notre Dame Stadium.
The “House That Rockne Built” hosted its first game on October 4, 1930, when the Irish defeated Southern Methodist University 20-14. It was officially dedicated a week later when Notre Dame hosted Navy.
The iconic Touchdown Jesus mural on the Hesburgh Library has had an excellent view of the home games since 1964.
Game #500 at the stadium kicks off at 3:30 on Saturday.
