Niles man found guilty in connection to Easter Sunday shooting death in South Bend

A jury has found Marcus Hatcher, 28, guilty of reckless homicide for the Easter Sunday death of Eddie Tyler, 26, of South Bend.

Tyler was shot while sitting in the backseat of a car as it began to travel down the 200 block of South Lafayette Blvd.

The shooting stemmed from an altercation that began in the parking lot of Finnie’s Bar.

Police found spent shell casings near the bar, as well as where Tyler was struck by gunfire on Lafayette after an exchange of gunfire between Hatcher and another man that Tyler was with at the time.

The jury also found Hatcher guilty of the firearm enhancement.

The sentencing range for the offense of reckless homicide is 1 to 6 years.

The sentence range for the firearm enhancement is 5 to 20 years.

Sentencing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Dec. 18.
