An Elkhart man is behind bars after allegedly punching an off-duty Deputy Sheriff and a police officer.

It happened early Monday night, Jan. 8.

Officers got a call about a man who allegedly punched a person at the Marathon gas station on South Main Street, then, half an hour later, got a call about a customer in the 7-Eleven on East Jackson being assaulted by a man.

Soon after, police encountered the suspect, D’Micah Jones, 30, in the area of Johnson and Orchard.

Elkhart Police say Jones struck the deputy sheriff in the face and hit the Elkhart police officer in the jaw.

Officers tackled him in the melee and arrested in on multiple counts of battery.
