Give plow trucks plenty of room on the roads

INDOT and Toll Road officials are reminding drivers that it’s very important to maintain a safe distance from snow plows.

You should travel at least 100 yards behind snow plow trucks, or even 200, to allow them the space they need to work and the space you need to stay safe. With salt spreaders, if you can hear the salt bouncing up and hitting the underside of your vehicle…then you’re too close.

And even though the plow trucks might be moving slower than you’d like, you should stay safely behind them so they can clear the way.

INDOT says most rear-end crashes involving plows come from vehicles following them too closely. You should also remember that plow drivers work 12-hour shifts on long routes, and be patient.
