It’s tax time, and tax preparers everywhere say to make sure you have all the necessary documents before you file.

January 29 marks the official state date of the 2024 tax season. Individuals can file their state income tax return online, with a tax professional, or by mailing in paper forms and documentation.

Taxpayers should be sure they have all the necessary documents before filing their taxes, as those who rush to file without all the paperwork will need to file an amended return later.

All income tax returns and payment of any taxes owed must be received by April 15.

Employers are required to mail the previous year’s income record forms by January 31, so employees should keep an eye out for their W2s and 1099s in the coming weeks and should file as soon as they are able.
