Michigan is hopeful that more big-budget movie productions might come to The Great Lakes State.
Last week, at a packed meeting of the House Economic Development and Small Business Committee, there was testimony in support of an effort supported by the Michigan Production Alliance. Supporters say Michigan is missing out on profitable movie shoots, because they don’t offer rebates to filmmakers.
The legislation being considered would incentivize filmmakers up to 30% tax credits for filming in the state and hiring Michiganders to work on their productions.
The bills are still being considered at the committee level, and would then need majority approval in the House and Senate and a signature from the Governor.
