Grace Lawn Cemetery closes due to erosion

An unfortunate discovery at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Elkhart resulted in the grounds being closed.

Erosion spotted at the cemetery, Thursday, prompted staff to secure the affected area along the western side.

The erosion, caused by the river and loss of tree roots, led to land movement.

Staff has been assessing the situation and planning necessary measures to stabilize the bank.

Although a few headstones were affected, they have been safely recovered and restored.

The cemetery was closed for evaluation of ground stability near the erosion site.
