A 36-year-old murder suspect’s motion for a fast and speedy trial has been approved.

Matthew Thompson is believed responsible for the death of his 27-year-old wife, Ciarra Thompson.

Police responded to the Elkhart home after receiving a call from Thompson who stated that his wife was unconscious and bloodied on the kitchen floor.

His wife was already dead when officers arrived on scene, and according to The Goshen News, documents say blood was found throughout the living room and kitchen, with some appearing to have been cleaned up already.

Thompson allegedly admitted that he had cleaned some of the blood, but initially denied causing harm to his wife.

However, he reportedly eventually admitted to have punched her and shook her before she hit her head on the kitchen counter and fell to the floor.

Competency evaluations deemed Thompson fit to stand trial, and his jury trial is scheduled for May 6.
