The United States Marshals Service and the FBI are warning of several scams happening in the area.

Many reports have come in about individuals claiming to be representatives of the Marshals Service, court officers or other law enforcement officials.

They say several residents in the Northern District of Indiana have received the calls, where they were told that their identity had been stolen and bank account hacked.

The caller instructs them to withdraw funds from their bank before their funds are frozen, and are told to purchase gift cards with the money for the Marshal to put into a new account for them.

However, it is all a scam, and the US Marshal’s Service says they will not call and ask for money or monetary instrument over the phone.

If you receive a similar phone call, report it to your local FBI office and to the FTC.
