National Night Out is set for Tuesday in several Michiana communities

Tuesday, Aug. 6, is the National Night Out Against Crime and several local police agencies are hosting events:

The South Bend Police Department’s event is set for 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at police headquarters on Sample Street. Kids will have the chance to check out police cars, SWAT and Bomb Squad vehicles, plus fire department equipment, meet the police, K-9s, enjoy the new bounce house and more.

The Mishawaka Police, Fire and Parks Departments are also hosting evening of free fun, frozen treats. Their “Chill with a Cop” event is set for 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Merrifield Park. Residents can cool off with popsicles. There’s games, inflatables, a DJ, Safety Pup, police officers to talk to, and more.

The St. Joseph County Police Department is hosting an event from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Clay High School. There’s free food and drinks, safety demonstrations and activities, and more. It’s 100 percent free to attend.

The Elkhart Police Department’s “National Night Out” event taking place from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. on the Central Green in downtown Elkhart, and all members of the community are welcome to join for free food, inflatables, a K9 demonstration and more.
