A Honduran man accused of stabbing a teenage girl in Northwest Indiana this past weekend is charged with attempted murder.
Dimas Gabriel Yanes was arrested Sunday in Lake County, Indiana following a manhunt.
Authorities say the stabbing happened Saturday at the VFW baseball field near West 173rd Street and Morse Street in Lowell while the 13-year-old girl was watching her brother’s baseball game.
The victim was treated and released from the hospital. Officials say Yanes had been deported to Honduras in 2018 but returned to the U.S. illegally.
As police were looking for Yanes, they eventually found him at an apartment in Lake County. He was in the middle of shaving his head in an attempt to change his appearance.
