More children are playing team sports.
The Aspen Institute’s National State of Play 2024 released this week found nearly 40% of children between six and 17 regularly played a team sport last year, the highest rate since 2015. But of the 16 sports tracked, participation was down in nine of them.
More girls are playing, at the highest rates since at least 2012.
Some experts credit the popularity of WNBA/Indiana Fever star Caitlyn Clark with drawing more girls into sports.
