The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of the victim in the breaking and entering homicide.

They say 55-year-old Gloria White, who was an art teacher with Dowagiac Union Schools, was the victim.

The Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Sister Lakes home where the caller told them her son, 25-year-old Aidan White, was attempting to break into her home. Agencies were en route, but the suspect was able to gain entry into the home and took Gloria’s life.

He was taken into custody shortly after law enforcement arrived on scene. He was arraigned on a charge of Open Murder and First-Degree Home Invasion.
