An Indiana man was sentenced after pleading guilty to mail fraud and tax fraud by a distiller.

53-year-old LaPorte resident, Dennis Zeedyk, owns Glycerin Traders and reportedly marketed and sold an “Ethanol Extraction” product as a pure food-grade product.

However, the product contained high levels of methanol leading to multiple deaths and severe physical injuries for those who consumed it.

Zeedyk sold the product from October of 2016 to May of 2018, during which over 1,200 customers purchased it.

After learning that a customer had died from drinking the priduct, Zeedyk stopped selling the product and attempted to distribute recall notices, though not all customers responded to the recall. They say at least three people have died from drinking it.

Zeedyk was sentenced to 48 months in prison with one year of supervised release and was ordered to pay over $120,000 in fines and costs. SOQ
