Indiana Community Action Poverty Institute announces initiative to help LaPorte County residents understand their rights while facing debt

The Indiana Community Action Poverty Institute says they have announced a year-long initiative to focus on ensuring that people who live in LaPorte County know their rights when they are facing burdensome medical debt.
There is a Know Your Rights campaign with workshops related to healthcare access, charity care, ACA coverage, and surprise bill resources 7.3 percent of residents in La Porte County lack health insurance, 11.8 percent of residents have medical debt currently in collections, and nearly one in five residents of LaPorte County live under the poverty level.
