The Southwest Central Fire Territory is splitting into two new entities. Centre Fire will now serve Centre and Green Township, while the newly formed St. Joseph County Fire Territory will cover Warren and Portage Township, according to WSBT-TV.
Darrel Eiler, the incoming chief of Centre Fire, said discussions about realigning the fire territories began about two years ago when Warren Township approached Southwest Central Fire Territory.
“The political entities of Centre, Portage, and Warren came together to discuss the future,” Eiler said.
