Changes coming to two St. Joseph Co. library branches

From sausage and noodles on Dyngus Day…to books and media: There’s a big change coming for the former Z.B. Falcons Nest property.

The building, a favorite Dyngus Day hangout for many years, was purchased by the St. Joseph County Public Library. It will be the new home of the Western Branch, which has outgrown its location on Lombardy.

he former Falcon building will be extensively renovated. The 10-year facilities plan for the libraries also includes and expansion of the LaSalle Branch.

The two projects carry a price tag of about 10 million dollars. Both projects are expected to begin sometime this year.

People should worry less about new branches and more about where all the books went… A few current books placed sideways on shelves to make them seem full is a pitiful replacement for the vast collections of old.

Taxpayers need to start asking lots of questions.
