Recent coyote sightings in Mishawaka have raised concerns among residents who feel the animals are getting too close.

A neighborhood meeting will take place Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. at Fire Station #4, next to Hums School.

An urban wildlife biologist from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources will be there to discuss the issue and offer advice on how to address it.

Bounties on coyotes were in place in Indiana from at least 1849 through the late 1960s. Despite this persecution by early European settlers and later residents, coyotes persisted in Indiana.

A wildlife bounty is a reward paid to someone for hunting or trapping a specific animal. Wildlife bounties have been used in the United States to manage wildlife populations and protect livestock.

How to address it; shoot them or learn to live with the feral beasts and adjust your life accordingly.
