A local woman is facing charges after allegedly posing as a police officer and damaging property.
According to court documents, Elizabeth Ashley Trowbridge, 32, was captured on a Ring doorbell camera approaching a home on Jan. 12. Trowbridge, accompanied by a man, reportedly claimed to be a police officer.
The homeowner told responding officers that he did not recognize the pair and declined to open the door. The Ring camera footage reportedly shows Trowbridge identifying herself as “the police” when the doorbell’s automated message indicated no one was home. Moments later, Trowbridge was seen holding a knife behind her back and stating her intention to slash the tires of a vehicle in the driveway. The video then allegedly shows Trowbridge puncturing the tire of a truck before walking away.
The homeowner confirmed the tire damage and provided the footage to authorities. Officers later noted the damage was consistent with the events depicted in the video.
During the investigation, Trowbridge voluntarily met with police after recognizing herself in the video, which had been shared on social media. She initially denied slashing the tire but admitted to the act after being confronted with the footage. Trowbridge explained to investigators that she believed the home belonged to someone she had met on a dating app. She claimed she had given the man a jar containing her father’s ashes, which she wanted returned.
The man confirmed to police that didn’t want a serious involvement with Trowbridge and that she became upset. He stated that he planned to return the ashes after work but said Trowbridge demanded them immediately. He turned the jar over to law enforcement as part of the investigation.
Trowbridge was arrested on misdemeanor criminal mischief charges and later released. Prosecutors have requested that she have no contact with the homeowner and the man as a condition of her release. A court hearing is scheduled for Jan. 27.
