Man accused of rape pleads guilty to lower crime

A man accused of attempted rape has pleaded guilty to a lower crime.

Travis Howey, who was originally accused of attempted rape, sexual misconduct with a minor and confinement, has pleaded guilty to three lesser counts.

A 14-year-old stated that she suffered an attempted rape while on a walk in August of 2022. She told officials that she heard a moped behind her and turned to find the man on the moped approaching her.

The Goshen News says the girl claimed the man groped her and took her cell phone. Howey has pleaded guilty to robbery, battery resulting in bodily injury and interfering with reporting of a crime.

His sentencing is set for April 4.
