A high-speed police pursuit ended in a violent crash, leaving a man with life-threatening injuries.

It happened around 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6 on County Road 40.

Wakarusa police officers attempted to pull over a Mercedes C30 for moving violations. Instead of stopping, the driver fled eastbound at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit ended just east of County Road 9 when the fleeing vehicle rear-ended a Chevrolet Equinox. The driver of the Equinox, a 70-year-old Goshen woman, was uninjured.

The fleeing vehicle veered off the road, rolled multiple times before coming to rest on its roof. The driver, a 35-year-old man from Goshen, was ejected from the car and suffered severe injuries, including facial and chest lacerations and possible internal trauma.

Emergency responders transported him to South Bend Memorial Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
