Stolen vehicle spotted, pursuit ensues in LaPorte

A police pursuit unfolded in LaPorte after a stolen vehicle was detected by a Flock Safety camera. It happened around 11:50 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, at State Road 39 and the Indiana Toll Road (I-80/90). The Mazda CX-5 was reported stolen out of Benton Harbor.
The vehicle was traveling south on Indiana Avenue/US 35 when a sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop. However, the driver accelerated, initiating a  pursuit through several city streets.
The chase ended near Andrew Avenue and 19th Street, where two male suspects got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.
One suspect, 28-year-old Courtney M. Williams of Benton Harbor, was apprehended in the 1300 west block of 18th Street. Authorities determined Williams was the passenger; the driver, known only as “TayTay,” remains at large.
Williams was taken to LaPorte County Jail and faces charges of Assisting a Criminal and Resisting Law Enforcement. He remains in custody.
