Officers from the Mishawaka Police Dept. were dispatched to the 700 block of Division St. Mishawaka, for a report of gunshots fired and people screaming.
It happened around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
Upon arrival, several parties were found. A male and a female were suffering from gunshot wounds to their bodies. The male and female were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. Both parties were treated at a local hospital. The female, Asia Phillip, 23, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The male was identified as Tyrees Brown, 2. Tyrees underwent surgery and is currently listed in stable condition.
Narles Brown Sr., 45, was detained at the scene. Narles Brown Sr. was interviewed at the Mishawaka Police Dept. by detectives with the Major Crimes Unit. Narles Brown Sr. was formally charged by the Prosecutor’s Office of Saint Joseph County for the Murder of Asia Phillip and Attempted Murder of Tyrees Brown. He was also charged with a Firearm Enhancement.
An autopsy for Asia Phillips is scheduled for Thursday in Kalamazoo.
