South Bend shooting on East Indiana Avenue now a homicide investigation

A shooting on South Bend’s southeast side Wednesday afternoon is now being investigated as a homicide, according to the South Bend Police Department.

Police were called to the 800 block of E. Indiana Avenue at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, following reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Authorities are withholding the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin.

The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation. Police have stated that there is no current active threat to the public related to this incident.
